Effects Part 1

Now to add some effects and make the sound thicker and more expressive.

22. Left Click the Effects Button to view the Effects Page.

Look at the Modulation Section. This section allows you to apply various modulating effects such as phasing, flanging and chorus. These effects are good for fattening everything up.

You use the Mode Field to choose which kind of modulating effect to apply.

23. Set Modulation Mode to 6-Voice Chorus.

This is a very fat chorus effect.

The Speed Slider controls modulation rate.

24. Set Modulation Speed to 1.44Hz.

The Delay Slider sets modulation delay time. Delay time is the time difference between the original signal and the modulated signal.

25. Set Modulation Delay Time to 12.19ms.

The Level Slider controls the mix between wet (modulated) and dry (source) signals.

26. Set Modulation Level to 35.9%.

Look at the Delay Section. Delay can go a long way towards making your synth sound ‘pro’.

The Mode Field is where you choose which type of delay to use.

27. Left Click Once in the Mode Field and select Stereo Delay.

The Stereo Delay algorithm is exactly that; a standard stereo delay.

The Sync Field sets the beat division.

28. Left Click the Arrow Tab next to the Sync Field and set Sync to 1.

The Delay Section comes equipped with a built-in EQ unit to EQ out unwanted frequencies in the wet signal. You may choose between various different modes using the EQ Mode Field.

29. Left Click Once in the EQ Mode Field and select STD (ST what!?-Ed).

This is the standard EQ mode.

It would be nice to hear the delay. The Level Slider controls the delay mix.

30. Increase Delay Level to 53.1%.

Now the mix between the wet (delayed) and dry (source) signals is about equal.

The Time L Slider sets the left delay time.

31. Set Delay Time L to 0.38s.

The Time R Slider sets the right delay time.

32. Set Delay Time R to 0.38s.

The Feedb Slider sets delay feedback (amount of repeats).

33. Set Delay Feedback to 71.9%.

The Low Slider controls the amount of low cut applied to the wet signal, utilizing the aforementioned EQ mode.

34. Set Delay Lo EQ to -14.06dB.

The Mid Slider controls the amount of mid cut applied to the wet signal.

35. Set Delay Mid EQ to -4.69dB.
